Thanks to the Australian government and the research company GFK, a few years ago (in 2012) we got the officially ugliest color in the world. The task was to make the most disgusting color design of a pack of cigarettes, which should be uniform for all tobacco companies and to encourage people to quit smoking. It's Pantone 448 C, also called opaque couché, a brownish-green shade, a mix of the olive green and khaki colors. This color has also been chosen for the new UK cigarette packs. The color is really ugly and I support the idea that it is used for packaging of cigarettes. It would be nice if all companies have the same package. Perhaps it will, at least a little bit, to raise awareness about the harmfulness of cigarettes. Smoking is not just a problem of smokers, but also all of us.

I have to tell you something as a former smoker and nicotine addict. Smokers are interested only in cigarettes, not for their packaging. This design may refuse only potential smokers, but not active. If only this is achieved, it will be a success.
Smoking is a strong addiction that is not describable to the people who haven't been in it. Of course, I support any measure that aims to reduce the number of current smokers.

Pantone 448C will probably be the least popular color in the world. But there are exceptions everywhere, even in the smoking world and market. Citizens of Turkmenistan will not see this color on cigarette packs, because smoking in their country is totally prohibited. After the ban of the black painted cars (due to superstition), president Gurbanguly Berdimukamedov introduced another prohibition - cigarette smoking. There are severe penalties for contempt of this prohibition. The aim of this prohibition is to improve the general health of the population whose life expectancy is 65 years: TURKMENISTAN BANS CIGARETTES (dailymail.co.uk)
